Southampton's Dusan Tadic removes his shirt as he celebrates his goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford

Manchester United were left disappointed after the Red Devils lost to Southampton, 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Though, the game was dominated by Manchester United possession wise, which read 60 40 in favour of the home side, they were not able to score a single goal, despite getting chances.

Surprisingly, with class players such as Wayne Rooney, Van Persie, Di Maria, Juan Mata at the disposal of Louis Van Gaal, they could not even fire a single shot on target.

It was a disappointing performance in front of goal for such galaxy of stars. This also brought Manchester United's 10-match unbeaten league run to an end.

The Saints started the game brightly, where they put in some shots in the first ten minutes of the game itself, but Manchester United grew gradually into the game.

But, inspite of an injury to Toby Alderweireld during the game for which he had to be substituted, their defense held firm against the Red Devils, who were not posing serious questions but holding the ball on their feet for majority of the time.

In spite of some pressing, Southampton could not pose a huge threat to the Red devils, when a chance came by as well.

The first half did not have much to show, as it failed to live up to the hyped expectations, where goals were at least guaranteed.

Manchester United received a major setback as Van Persie had to be substituted due to an ankle injury. Ander Herrera came in for the Dutchman, who was expected to bring back some fluidity into Manchester's game.

Southampton also made a change by bringing in Dusan Tadic for Eljero Elia, two minutes later.

What a substitution it proved out to be for the Saints, as the player scored a goal after Pelle's strike hit the goal post and fell in the path of Tadic, who scored with his left foot placing the ball on the back of the net wisely.

It had only been six minutes since the Southampton manager, Ronald Koeman made that magical substitution.

Manchester United got their share of chances as well to score and draw the game if not win, as Juan Mata failed to find the back of the net twice in the latter stages of the game.

With the determination shown by the visitors' side, it reflects a fair result.

With this victory, Southampton have overtaken Manchester United in the EPL standings as the Red Devils lie on fourth position with 37 points, while the Saints climb to third place with 39 points.
