South Korean electronics major LG on Wednesday confirmed that the next generation Optimus G smartphone would ship with the latest Qualcomm processor.

"With a powerful combination of LG's core smartphone technologies and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, we are taking a significant step forward in the mobile experience," said Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. 

"The result of this collaboration will in many ways be the industry's best smartphone by which all other devices will be measured." 

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series processor which was unveiled at Consumer Electronics 2013 event in January is said to be 75 percent more power efficient than the Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset.

Key Enhancements to LG Optimus G successor from Snapdragon 800 series chipset include:

  • Krait quad-core 400 CPU which is expected to push processing speed up to 2.3GHz.
  • Enhanced aSMP (asynchronous Symmetric Multiprocessing) architecture for efficient power usage, increased battery life and support for next generation LTE-Advance network. 
  • A new Adreno 330 graphics engine with twice the performance level compared to current Adreno 320 GPU found in Snapdragon 600 series chipset.
  • The new processor will support Ultra HD video, four times thefull HD 1920x1080p resolution present in the current crop of high-end smartphones in the industry. It also enables the smartphone to support DTS-HD and Dolby Digital Plus audio system.

Apart from the processor, LG's press release did not much delve into the CPU speed of the smartphone or the other key features of the Optimus G successor. However, if rumours are to be believed, the upcoming Optimus G2 is expected to sport a 5.2-inch Full HD screen and run on Android v4.2 Jelly Bean OS powered by super fast 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 series processor.
