In a highly competitive market, smartphone vendors are taking new and extreme steps to get maximum attention. LG Electronics is kicking off a new marketing strategy where it will give away its upcoming G4 smartphone to 4,000 lucky consumers across 15 countries. The winners of the program will be handpicked from a pool of applicants and details of participation will be announced shortly. The aim of the program is to get the first-hand review of the flagship before it hits the market.

Even though the G4 handsets will be given out for free, customers will not be allowed to keep them. The massive consumer campaign lets winners use the G4 smartphone for just 30 days, during which different tasks linked to the handset will be assigned to them. In order to participate, customers will need to fill out application forms with their entry responses. LG also stressed that sharing application experience on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Weibo will increase the chances of victory.

Besides getting to use the flagship smartphone ahead of launch, customers who review the handset will be given surprising gifts. LG did not reveal if the G4 will be given as a gift.

"Customers are our best fans and we think this would be an exciting and unique way to get our most important mobile product of the year close to the public," Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG, said in a statement. "We're putting the success of LG G4 in the hands of consumers before the launch because we believe they are the best judge of a great user experience, beyond just benchmarks and speed tests."

The new campaign is limited to 15 markets, including Korea, Turkey, Indonesia, Singapore, United States, China, India, Brazil, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Mexico, Japan and Hong Kong. The company has already kick-started the programme in its home market om 8 April, while other markets will follow the feat in the days to come.

Although official details of the G4 are still under wraps, rumours about major features and specifications of the handset are doing the rounds. The LG G4 is expected to come with a 5.5-inch QHD display, F/1.8camera lens, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoC, 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The official launch is set for April 28 and the company has already sent out invites by dropping a hint at the handset's rear leather finish.
