There were two important smartphone releases this month by well-known brands, Lenovo and Xiaomi. Both smartphones are targeted towards budget-conscious shoppers and are priced effectively to attract consumers. Lenovo launched its Vibe K5 Plus during the K5 Note release on August 1 and Xiaomi placed its bet with the Redmi 3S Prime, which was launched alongside the Redmi 3S on August 3.
Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus is cheaper than Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime, but the difference is not vast. Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus is priced at Rs. 8,499 and it is available on Flipkart without any flash sales or registrations. On the other hand, Xiaomi Redmi 3S costs Rs. 8,999 and the first sale is set to take place on August 9 exclusively on Mi.com and Flipkart.
While both smartphones are priced almost the same, they also strike a close fight in terms of specifications. We are going to compare the Vibe K5 Plus and the Redmi 3S Prime to see which one is worth more than the other.
Design and display
Metallic design is becoming a norm among budget smartphones. Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime and Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus have premium metal unibody design, but have distinctive looks. Both phones also have the same display size, measuring 5 inches diagonally, but the Vibe K5 Plus offers Full HD resolution with 441ppi and 178-degree wide-view angle while the Redmi 3S Prime comes with a 720p HD screen and 294ppi.
By comparison, the Vibe K5 Plus has an edge over the Redmi 3S Prime with its brighter and clearer display.
Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus features a 13MP primary camera with 5-piece lens and 5MP front snapper with f/2.8 aperture, which is quite similar to Xiaomi's budget smartphone. The Redmi 3S Prime has a 13-megapixel camera with 5-physical lens, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF and a 5MP front camera with f/2.2 aperture and 36-intelligent self-portrait selfie styles.
Processor, RAM and storage
Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus is powered by a 1.5GHz 64-bit Snapdragon 616 octa-core CPU, which is combined with 3GB RAM and 16GB storage with microSD card support up to 128GB. The Redmi 3S Prime is powered by a 64-bit class Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 quad-core CPU, 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage.
By comparison, the Vibe K5 Plus has a better processor, which delivers better performance, but those who want more storage can opt for Redmi 3S Prime.
Xiaomi has an edge over Lenovo in this category. The Redmi 3S Prime has a 4,100mAh battery while the Vibe K5 Plus uses a 2,750mAh unit.
Both phones support 4G LTE, dual SIM, but the Redmi 3S Prime offers a fingerprint sensor at the back, which is a major USP for Xiaomi.
