After days of speculation, YU today (20 July) unveiled the Yureka Plus in India.

The new YU phablet is an upgraded version of the Yureka that was launched in December last year.

A key improvement over Yureka dset is that the the Yureka Plus boasts full HD display and sturdier polycarbonate cover with re-inforced casing so that it can withstand accidental falls.

Company founder Rahul Sharma has posted a Yureka Plus extreme drop-test video. It shows Sharma practically throwing and kicking the phone around floors. He also drops it from a height of 4-feet, then 9 feet and finally the handset is dropped from a building with a height of more than 70 feet. The phone does break, with battery, cover and the display getting separated.

But once he put those parts back together, the phone started working, except the top-right corner of the display region.

Other key features of the Yureka Plus include Cyanogen OS 12 (based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop), Snapdragon 615 Octa-core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB inbuilt memory, 13mp camera, 5mp front camera and a 2500 mAh battery. It will cost ₹9,999 and will be made available exclusively on Amazon India on 24 July. The registration window will open at 12:00 pm today (20 July).

With the announcement, YU will put Yureka Plus in direct competition with Lenovo K3 Note, which has become a new favorite among Indians. [Do check out the key features comparison between the two in the table below].
