Multiple casualties are being reported are a bomb targeted the office belonging to Syrian religious scholars in northeastern border town of Arsal.

At least 10 people were killed and dozens were injured in the bombing, Al Arabiya reported. The casualties are expected to increase further.

The bomb targeted an office belonging to Qalamoun Scholars Committee, a group of Syrian religious scholars. Several Muslim scholars and Arab sheikhs were among the victims, local reports said.

Head of the al-Qalamoun Muslim scholars committee Sheikh Othman Mansour also reportedly was killed in the Arsal blast. 

The group of Syrian scholars have been playing a major role in securing the release of soldiers captured by Isis, Al Nusra and other Islamist rebel groups.

The entire neighborhood of al-Jammal has been cordoned off by the Lebanese Army.
