Popular home-bred smartphone maker Lava on Monday announced the launch of its new Android smartphone Iris X1 in India.

Priced in the sub- 8,000 bracket, Lava Iris X1 is the latest smartphone in the country to join the Android KitKat club. It sports 4.5-inch IPS display wit 480x854 pixels resolution and is shipped with the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box OS. Under the hood, the Lava Iris X1 packs 1.2GHz quad-core Broadcom BCM23550 processor with 1GB of RAM and comes with 4GB of built-in storage, which is further expandable by upto 32 GB with microSD card.

Coming to the imaging capability of Lava's new offering, it houses 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The handset supports connectivity features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPRS/ EDGE, A-GPS, 3G and Micro-USB and is backed by 1800mAh battery.

The smartphone will be available for purchase in the country 26 May onwards, exclusively through online retailer Amazon. The smartphone will be offered with free flip cover in the box and will come in black and white colour options. Lava Iris X1 will be pegged against Moto E and Micromax Unite 2 in the country which are also fall in the same price brackets.

Earlier today, Micromax's new KitKat smartphone dubbed Canvas Engage A091 was spotted online with a price tag of ₹6,199. It sports 4.0-inch WVGA screen and runs the Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS. The handset is powered by a quad-core CPU coupled with 512MB RAM, 4GB inbuilt storage with options of expansion up to 32GB via microSD card.

Recently, Lava announced the launch of its Iris 450 budget Android smartphone in India with a price tag of ₹7,999. It sports a 4.5-inch FWVGA (854x480p) IPS screen and is powered by 1.3GHz dual core processor paired with 512MB RAM. It runs on Android v4.2 Jelly Bean OS and packs 4GB inbuilt-memory, which is expandable by up to 32GB with microSD card. Other specifications include 5.0-megapixel main-camera with LED flash, HDR mode, digital zoom, 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front facing camera for video chat and 1800 mAh battery, which claims to deliver upto 9 hour 15 minutes talk time.
