Actress Laskhmi Manchu, daughter of Mohan Babu, has become mother to a baby girl born through surrogacy in Mumbai on Sunday.

Expressing joy over the birth of his granddaughter, actor Mohan Babu said,

Sources close to the Manchu family told the Times of India that the baby is healthy and weighs 3 kgs.

Earlier on Saturday, Mohan Babu announced, "To all my well wishers,fans & loved ones, I wl b announcing a wonderful news tomorrow around noon.One of the most important event (sic) of my life," triggering speculations of the news.

There were rumours doing the rounds that his son Manoj Manchu might be getting married. However, the actor clarified that he was not tying the knot. "Guys it's not about my marriage, there's lot of time for that :) the news we r gonna tel tmr is even bigger and happier :)," Manoj tweeted on Saturday.

On Sunday noon, the Manchu family confirmed the news of Lakshmi becoming a mother via surrogacy. Lakshmi is possibly the first ever surrogate mother in Telugu film industry. The actress-producer-television host has joined the likes of bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan, who became parents through surrogacy.

Shah Rukh has a son named AbRam born via surrogacy last year. The baby, born pre-maturely by several months, is the third son of the Bollywood superstar. The actor already has a son Aryan and a daughter Suhana.

Aamir and his wife Kiran Rao have a son named Azad born from a surrogate mother. The boy was born in 2011 and is the first child for the couple. However, Aamir is already a father to son Junaid and daughter Ira from his previous marriage to Reena Dutta.
