Real Madrid succumbed to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of rivals Atletico Madrid in the Madrid derby, while Barcelona continued winning ways with a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in this weekend's round of La Liga fixtures.

Tiago's early strike was cancelled out by Cristiano Ronaldo near the half-hour mark, before Arda Turan grabbed a late winner, sealing all three points for Atletico Madrid.

The game started with Tiago breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute as he tucked away Koke's corner past Iker Casillas.

Real came close to equalising through Gareth Bale but the Welshman's curling free-kick was tipped wide by Miguel Angel Moya.

However, that did not bother Los Blancos as they levelled the scores three minutes later, through a penalty from Ronaldo. The Portuguese, who won the penalty after being chopped down in the box by Guilherme Siqueira, stepped up and eased the ball into the bottom corner past Moya, who went the wrong way.

Real seem to have been invigorated by the goal as they started taking control of the match. Karim Benzema was in the thick of action as he narrowly missed the target in the 35th minute, before forcing an excellent save from Moya with a close-range header five minutes later.

Although Real continued dominating possession in the second half, they failed to create any clear cut chances.

Meanwhile, Atletico substitute Turan got a good opportunity to fire his team into the lead in the 74th minute as he dribbled his way past two Real defenders. However, the move came to nothing as his effort went wide of the post.

However, Turan was not made to rue for the missed chance as he found the nets two minutes later. The Turkish midfielder connected with Juanfran's low cross to fire into the bottom corner of the net.

Antoine Griezmann had a good chance to put the game to bed in the first minute of injury time but the Frenchman could only find the side netting.

Meanwhile, Barcelona recorded a late win over Athletic Bilbao, courtesy of brace from Neymar.

The game started with Barcelona getting a good chance to break the deadlock in the 6th minute, when Martin Montoya picked out Pedro with a smart cross. However, an alert Gorka Iraizoz was able to keep out Pedro's effort.

The Catalan club got another chance through Lionel Messi when he picked out Munir El Haddadi with a brilliant floated pass. However, the 19-year-old skied his effort over the crossbar.

Towards the end of the first half, Messi again found Munir inside the box but the youngster's close range effort was again wide of the target.

Messi and Munir finally clicked as the latter scored following a cross from the former in the 52nd minute. But their celebrations were cut short as the goal was ruled out as offside.

The hosts continued searching for a goal as Jordi Alba tested Iraizoz with a powerful effort in the 54th minute. But the goalkeeper came out on top as he managed to produce an excellent save to keep the scores level.

Finally, after a lot of huffing and puffing, Athletic Bilbao defence cracked as substitute Neymar broke the deadlock in the 79th minute. The Brazil forward, after receiving a through ball from Messi, tucked a close range effort into the bottom corner.

Five minutes later, Neymar sealed the game for Barcelona by scoring his second of the night after collecting another ball from Messi.
