Sukumar's maiden production "Kumari 21F" has done good collection at the US box office in the first weekend, smashing the opening weekend record of "Akhil: The Power of Jua".

"Kumari 21F" was released in over 88 cinema halls across North America; the screen count is significant for a young hero like Raj Tarun, who does not hail from any filmstar's family. The reason for the grand release is being attributed to three big names - writer Sukumar, musician Devi Sri Prasad and "Endhiran" cinematographer R Ratnavelu.

New York-based Creative Cinemas, which has acquired the theatrical rights of "Kumari 21F", is making a debut in film distribution in the international market with Sukumar's movie.

The distributors held paid preview shows at several locations across North America, enabling "Kumari 21F" to ensure decent amount of footfalls.

Released on 20 November, the film debuted with a fantastic response. The word of mouth helped it go from strength to strength over the weekend.

"Kumari 21F" has collected $188,457 (Rs 1.25 crore) at the US box office in the first weekend. It has become the highest grosser for actor Raj Tarun.

Taran Adarsh tweeted, "Telugu film #Kumari21F - USA: Thu previews $ 27,993, Fri $ 54,443, Sat $ 67,317, Sun $ 38,704. Total: $ 188,457 [₹ 1.25 cr]. @RentrakIndia."

"Akhil: The Power of Jua", which marked the debut of Nagarjuna's son Akhil Akkineni, was released in over 150 cinema halls across the country. Having opened to a mixed response, the VV Vinayak-directed film raked in $160,645 (Rs 1.06 crore) from 107 screens at the US box office in its five-day-extended first weekend.
