Kerala speaker G Karthikeyan (GK) ― who passed away on Saturday, 7 March, in Bengaluru ― will be cremated at 6pm with full government honours on Sunday at Shanthi Kavadam electric crematorium in Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram.
The veteran minister was undergoing treatment for liver cancer at Health Care Global (HCG) hospital in Bengaluru, where his health condition became critical on Saturday around 10:30am.
His body arrived in the capital city in a special aircraft and was kept at his official residence, 'Neeti', where party workers, friends and close acquaintances paid homage.
On Sunday, his body was kept at Kerala Assembly, followed by Secretariat Durbar Hall and KPCC office. Soon his mortal remains will taken to his Aryanadu constituency and his residence 'Abhayam' in Sasthamangalam.
Meanwhile, Kerala Government has declared a seven-day mourning in the state.
Karthikeyan had earlier undergone treatment at Mayo Clinic in the United States in October 2014. He had also undergone ayurvedic treatment in Thiruvananthapuram besides consulting doctors at AIIMS, New Delhi and CMC, Vellore.
GK has been in politics since his college days and has become a legislator six times and cabinet minister twice.
Besides celebrities, several ministers and leaders from the Opposition parties have arrived to pay tributes to the veteran Congress leader.
