An alert has been raised off the coast of Vizhinjam in the capital of South Indian state of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, after reports that a suspicious boat was carrying arms and ammunition.

Manaroma Online reported that the vessel was sighted 27 Km off the Vizhinjam port, an International Seaport located 16 km from Thiruvananthapuram.

It is reported that MV Splendour, a vessel carrying timber from Malaysia to Gujarat alerted the Navy about the suspicous boat allegedly carrying weapons and ammunition.

Since Friday night the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard are conducting check on all vessels docking into the port.

Navy commandos reportedly have searched more than 100 vessels, but the suspected boat has not been found yet, it is reported.
