The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Kerala unit president V Muraleedharan has invited Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi to join the Narendra Modi-led party on Thursday.

"Three months back, I had a talk with him and so did a national leader of ours. Suresh then said that he will make a decision at the appropriate time. Now that we have extended our invite to him to join our party, the decision has now to be made by him," said Muraleedharan, according to IANS.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with a Malayalam news channel, the actor confirmed that he is ready to join the BJP. He also said that if the party asks him to contest in Thiruvanathapuram by-election instead of BJP senior leader O Rajagopal, he is ready to accept it with respect.

Earlier it was reported that the BJP might woo some of the Malayalam actors, including Suresh Gopi and Lalu Alex to join politics after BJP president Amit Shah visited the South Indian state in December.

Suresh Gopi had also met Modi before he became the Indian Prime Minister and even attended the latter's swearing-in ceremony.
