Box Office Collections: How Kaththi-Happy New Year Rules The Bangalore Market!

Vijay's "Kaththi" is lagging behind Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year" ("HNY") and Vishal's "Poojai" in its fourth weekend at the Malaysian box office.

"Kaththi" has lost most of the screens and has managed to rake in 171 Malaysian Ringgits (MYR) from one screen in the fourth weekend. "HNY" has fetched better collections than the Vijay starrer in the country and the film minted 11,298 MYR from five screens in the fourth weekend. On the other hand, Vishal's "Poojai" has raked in 3,991 MYR from two screens, according to Bollywood Hungama.

"Kaththi" was dominating with more number of screens and better collections over the other two releases for two weeks, but its business seems to have declined since its third weekend. However, the film emerged as a big hit in Malaysia with its total collections (till the end of the fourth weekend) amounting to 2,077, 574 MYR (₹3.83 crore). "HNY" and "Poojai" total collections amount to 894,980 MYR (₹1.65 crore) and 393,232 MYR (₹72.51 lakh), respectively.

With new films set to hit Malaysian screens, "Kaththi" business is likely to decline further in the coming days.

The Vijay starrer is also witnessing a drop in its collections at the US box office. The film has fetched $125 in its fourth weekend at the US box office and its total collections (till 16 November) amount to $621,954 (₹3.84 crore).

On the other hand, "HNY" has minted $42,314 from 33 screens in the fourth weekend. The film's total collections amount to over ₹18 crore and it has emerged as one of the biggest Bollywood hits in the US.

"Kaththi" is the biggest grossing Tamil film of 2014. The film has done grand business in India and overseas markets by surpassing the ₹100 crore mark. It remains to be seen if Rajinikanth's "Lingaa," which will be the next big release in Tamil, will be able to surpass "Kaththi" collections.

HNY

"HNY" has surpassed the ₹200 crore mark and emerged as the second highest grossing Bollywood film of 2014 followed by "Kick" at the domestic box office. The SRK starrer is unlikely to surpass "Kick" collections, which amounts to over ₹230 crore. However, the heist drama film has beaten the worldwide collections of Salman's film.

Poojai

The Vishal starrer has managed to hold well despite "Kaththi" storm taking the box office. "Poojai" has performed decent business in Tamil Nadu, while its Telugu dubbed version has also fared well at the box office.
