After days of hue and cry, confusion and high drama, Pakistan has finally backed down. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), after making a series of demands to the ICC and threatening to boycott the marquee clash against India, has formally reversed its stand. Pakistan will now play India in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 on February 15.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi found himself under intense scrutiny during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) press event, where he was repeatedly asked to explain the board's strategy and whether Pakistan had managed to extract any concessions from the International Cricket Council (ICC) during negotiations.

During a media interview,  Naqvi responded bluntly, saying, "Humne apne liye kuch nahi kiya"( "I didn't do anything for myself.") The remark was seen as an attempt to project a moral stand, with Pakistan positioning itself as acting in solidarity with Bangladesh, even as it prepared the ground for a quiet U-turn on the boycott threat.

Earlier, Naqvi, while responding to warnings of possible ICC sanctions over Pakistan's refusal to play India. He claimed that neither he nor the Pakistani establishment was worried. He roped in Army Chief Asim Munir, stating, "Everyone knows our Field Marshal... we are not worried about any sanctions."

The U-turn has since triggered a flood of reactions online. Social media platforms have become a hub for meme material, featuring cartoons, hashtags, GIFs, and emojis that will keep you hooked.

The controversy centred around the high-voltage Group A match against India, scheduled for February 15 in Colombo. Tensions escalated after the Pakistan government initially signalled it might boycott the game following the ICC's decision to reject Bangladesh's demand to relocate its matches from India over security concerns. Bangladesh was subsequently removed from the tournament framework, prompting Pakistan to express solidarity and escalate the issue.

However, after intense behind-the-scenes discussions involving the PCB, ICC and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Pakistan ultimately relented and agreed to take the field.

And now the game is on are so are the memes.
