Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Saturday clarified that there is no ban on wearing religious attire during the upcoming Police Constable Recruitment Examination, urging candidates not to be misled by misinformation. He said candidates wearing religious clothing will be allowed to appear for the exam after reporting to their centres two-and-a-half hours early for mandatory security and identity verification. Kharge added that the Congress government has made extensive arrangements to ensure the recruitment process is transparent and fair.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said the state has not yet released Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu despite criticism from the BJP. He said any decision would be taken only after consulting legal experts and opposition leaders at an all-party meeting scheduled in Bengaluru on Sunday. Shivakumar noted that reservoir levels are rising due to heavy inflows and stressed that the government would act in accordance with legal requirements.
The Chief Minister also condemned the recent attack on civic officials during an anti-encroachment drive in Bengaluru's Shivajinagar, calling it an attack on the government. He reiterated that the anti-encroachment drive would continue while ensuring alternative arrangements for eligible street vendors and urged public participation in keeping cities clean through the state's "Freedom from Waste" campaign.
