"Kabali" has turned out to be Kollywood's biggest money-spinner in 2016. The movie, which was released on July 22, has not only made an earth-shattering collection in its home territory of Tamil Nadu but also at overseas centres.

After earning a staggering Rs. 75.27 crore ($11.20 million) in its opening weekend, the Tamil movie went on to end its first week at Rs. 84.02 crore ($12.6 million). In its second weekend, the movie has added Rs. 14.43 crore to end the weekend at Rs. 98.45 crore at the international box office.

The major centres that contributed in its success are the U.S., Malaysia, U.K. and Australia. While the pre-release hype ensured a thunderous opening for "Kabali" in the first weekend, the decent word-of-mouth reviews helped the film enjoy good occupancy in its second weekend too.

The movie was released in three languages in over 800 screens across 42 countries. It was released in a big way in Malaysia (133 screens), the U.S. (274 screens, with 237 for Tamil and 37 for Telugu), U.A.E. (54 screens), France (35), the U.K. (58), Ireland (21) and Australia (23).

The business at overseas centres is expected to slow down in the coming days. Nonetheless, industry experts predict that "Kabali" will hold well in Malaysia, where it has earned over Rs. 10 crore so far.

"Kabali" at Domestic Box Office
The Rajinikanth-starrer has performed well in Tamil Nadu and Kerala in its second weekend. While it minted over Rs. 70 crore in its home territory, the film has earned over Rs. 10 crore in God's Own Country. However, business slowed down in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka post the first week.
