J&K Turns Tricolour: Massive Tiranga Rallies Sweep Valley, Jammu and Border Villages

From the congested streets of downtown Srinagar to the border hamlets of Poonch and the temple towns of Jammu, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has turned saffron, white and green. With the nation gearing up to celebrate its 80th Independence Day, an unprecedented wave of Tiranga rallies has swept across districts of the Union Territory, creating a spectacle of unity that administration officials and local residents alike are describing as one of the most emphatic patriotic mobilisations the region has witnessed in years.

Under tight, multi-layered security arrangements, processions of students, government employees, ex-servicemen, women's groups and local youth clubs marched through markets, university campuses and remote hill villages, carrying the Tricolour and raising patriotic slogans. The sight of national flags fluttering over public spaces that were once associated with shutdowns and protests has added a new dimension to this year's Independence Day celebrations.

Massive Tiranga Rally in Jammu City

The District Administration Jammu organised a Tiranga Rally on Friday, reinforcing the message of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and encouraging citizens to proudly display the national flag at their homes and actively participate in Independence Day celebrations.

The rally started from Gulshan Ground and concluded at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Ji Park via Tawi Bridge.

The mega procession, comprising hundreds of students and members of the general public, was attended by Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma; Bahu MLA Vikram Randhawa; Nagrota MLA Devyani Rana; Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar; Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti; DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range; Deputy Commissioner Jammu; Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation; SSPs, HODs, ADCs and other senior officers and officials from the Civil and Police Department.

Carrying the Tricolour and raising patriotic slogans, participants marched along the designated route, creating an atmosphere of national pride, unity and enthusiasm.

Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said the Tiranga Rally was organised to set the tone for spirited Independence Day celebrations, reinforce the message of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and commemorate 150 years of the national song, Vande Mataram.

He said the timeless spirit of Vande Mataram continues to inspire citizens and represents the values of patriotism, sacrifice, unity and devotion to the nation.

The divisional commissioner appreciated the enthusiastic participation of people from all sections of society and said such initiatives strengthen the spirit of national unity, brotherhood and collective responsibility.

He urged the youth to draw inspiration from the patriotic values associated with Vande Mataram and contribute positively to nation-building. He called upon the younger generation to uphold the ideals of unity, social harmony, discipline and responsible citizenship and play an active role in the progress and development of the nation.

Tiranga Rally at International Border

A Tiranga Rally was organised by the sub-divisional administration, R.S. Pura, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF) and other departments to promote and strengthen the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.

The highlight of the rally was a fleet of hundreds of tractors driven by farmers. The participation of BSF personnel, officials, former PRI representatives, youth and local residents added patriotic fervour and grandeur to the event.

The rally started from Satowali Ground and culminated at the Octroi Check Post near the Suchetgarh International Border.

Alongside the rally, a Tiranga March was also taken out, with participants carrying the national flag and raising patriotic slogans throughout the route. BSF personnel also joined the celebrations.

A Mitti Yatra was organised as part of the programme, during which soil from the international border area was carried by participants. The event also featured a presentation highlighting the local culture and traditions of the border belt.

A plantation drive was also held on the occasion, with saplings distributed among participants.

The rally concluded at the Suchetgarh International Border, where participants paid tribute to the soldiers deployed there. Refreshments and lunch were also arranged for the participants at the venue.

Tiranga Rallies Witness Extraordinary Turnout

Officials tracking the rallies have described the turnout as extraordinary in both scale and geographic spread. Unlike previous years, when Tiranga marches were largely confined to the plains of Jammu and select urban centres of the Valley, this year's processions have also reached far-flung areas, including border villages, remote hill settlements and other sensitive pockets.

Local administrators have described the exercise as more than a ceremonial programme, saying the widespread participation reflects growing public engagement with national celebrations and the Tricolour.

Security forces, working in close coordination with the civil administration, maintained tight security arrangements along rally routes. Additional security personnel, drone surveillance and intelligence teams were deployed in sensitive areas to ensure that the celebrations passed off peacefully and without incident.

The extensive security arrangements also reflected the importance attached to maintaining peace and security during the Independence Day celebrations.

Participants, many of them young students and first-time marchers, carried banners highlighting national unity, patriotism and constitutional values. Several rallies culminated at prominent public squares, where participants took part in flag-hoisting ceremonies and patriotic programmes.

Addressing such gatherings, local leaders and officials emphasised the themes of peace, development, unity and a "New Jammu and Kashmir", urging young people to contribute to the region's progress while remaining committed to national values.

The large participation of people in Tiranga rallies across the Union Territory has added a distinct character to this year's Independence Day celebrations. From urban centres to remote border villages, the sight of citizens carrying the national flag has emerged as one of the defining images of the celebrations.

Officials have reiterated that security arrangements will remain on high alert throughout the Independence Day celebrations, with sensitive districts under close watch to ensure that all programmes pass off peacefully.
