The Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir was on boil as residents took to the streets in protest after the corpse of a 22-year-old man, who was missing since Tuesday, was found on Thursday morning.

The family of Owais Bashir Malik, a student, had lodged an FIR with the Humhama police station after had failed to return home on Tuesday. His body was found near a railway track close to his home in Peerbagh with multiple injuries.

"He had injury marks on his neck and chest. His arm was also dislocated," a police official at Humhama police station, where the FIR was registered, told the Hindustan Times.

After news of the discovery of his body spread, a protest was launched on the streets of Peerbagh, which is close to Srinagar, followed by a shutdown enforced by the authorities.

The protests turned violent after stones were hurled at the police station and policemen standing guard.

Security forces retaliated with tear-gas shells and pellets to scatter the protesters, which injured them, reported the Hindustan Times.
