Top Maoist Leader Sylvester Minz was shot dead in an encounter with the CRPF on Saturday in Jharkhand's Gumla region. 

The Maoist leader had a reward of Rs 15 lakh on his head. 

The encounter took place early on Saturday between 5 am and 6 am after the police received a tip-off that the Maoists had gathered in a village under the Chenpur Police Station in Jharkhand, according to reports.

A gun battle ensued after the Maoists saw the forces closing in on them. It is not clear if there were any injury or casualty among the police personnel. 

Sylvester Minz was a member of the CPI (Maoist) Zonal Area Committee. A Sub-zonal Commander among the Maoists was also arrested on Saturday. 

The encounter comes after Maoists torched 30 mining in Jharkhand's Bokaro district on Friday night.
