Ahead of Supreme Court hearing on All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo J Jayalalithaa's bail and suspension of sentence, her followers and party supporters performed a special prayer in Chennai on Tuesday.

In the Vadapalani Murugan temple, AIADMK workers and supporters took part in a special ritual where they performed "Anga Prathikshanam" for Jayalalithaa's release.

Around 51 AIADMK women members headed by South Chennai District Secretary Saraswathi Rangaswamy and 100 others gathered at the Murugan temple to perform the special prayer together on Tuesday morning, Daily News & Analysis reported.

The Chief Justice of India Handyala Lakshminarayanaswamy Dattu has posted the hearing on Jaya's petitions on 17 October.

Citing Supreme Court's firm stance against corruption—"corruption is a violation of human rights"—Karnataka HC had denied bail to AIADMK chief, who was sentenced four year jail term and a fine of ₹100 crore for amassing wealth worth ₹66.65 crore.

Jaya approached the apex court after the Karnataka High Court rejected her bail plea on 7 October, citing that the reasons mentioned in the petitions are not strong enough to release the convict sentenced on corruption charges.
