A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck Japan's eastern region on Thursday, but did not prompt tsunami warnings.

The epicentre of the earthquake was in the Ibaraki Prefecture, but the quake reportedly shook buildings even in Tokyo, Reuters reported.

Japan's meteorological agency reported that the earthquake struck at a depth of 60 kilometres. It, however, did not issue any tsunami warning.

The earthquake struck on a day when Japan was commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing.
