At least two terrorists and three army jawans were killed while on ejawan was critically injured in clashes between security forces and terrorists in two separate locations in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. A few terrorists attacked an army unit in Nagrota, while some tried to infiltrate into the Indian territory from across the border in Samba sector.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has been briefed by the Indian Army of the current situation in Nagrota.

According to media reports, three soldiers were killed after at least four to five terrorists attacked the 166 field regiment and opened fire in Nagrota around 5:30 am on Tuesday leading to a fierce gunbattle between security forces and terrorists. Around four terrorists are still believed to be holed up inside the officers' mess. The encounter is still underway.

"A group of heavily armed militants, believed to be four-to-five in number, attacked the 166 field regiment camp in Nagrota area of Jammu today at around 6 am," the police said. The field regiment camp is located in Nagrota's Garrison town close to the headquarters of the Indian Army's 16 Corps in the state.

"We will share information after operation is over. Firing is going on but situation under control," Defence PRO Manish Mehta told ANI. Schools have been ordered to shut down and traffic has been stopped on the Jammu-Udhampur highway. The area has been cordoned off. Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed, while all entry points to Jammu have been sealed. The gunbattle is still underway.

High alert has been sounded and security beefed up in Katra, Udhampur and other religious places including Vasihno Devi.

"We've been conducting regular vehicles checking. There is patrol going on. All suspects are being questioned and there are few detentions too," senior superintendent of police Shailendra Mishra told ANI.

"Schools in Nagrota tehsil will not open today due to the ongoing militant attack," DC Jammu Simrandeep Singh was quoted by Greater Kashmir as saying.

Meanwhile, three Border Security Force (BSF) jawans was injured after terrorists tried to infiltrate into the Indian territory along the International Border (IB) and opened fire at a BSF patrol in Samba sector in Jammu and Kashmir. Three terrorists were killed in the encounter that has now ended. The area is being sanitized, ANI reported.

"In the general area of Border Out Post Chamliyal, Samba, suspicious movement was noticed. The area was immediately cordoned off. When challenged, BSF patrol was fired upon by miscreants holed up in a tube well pumphouse," a BSF jawan said.
