New Delhi, Feb 2 (ANI): Rural Development Minister, Jairam Ramesh, on Sunday backed the proposal to equate the wages for works under the central government-run employment scheme with the minimum wages prevailing in states. The minister said minimum wages in 14 states was more than remuneration paid for the work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). He said that state governments and the central governments should jointly determine it. MGNREGA is the biggest programme that guarantees 100 days of minimum work for poor people in rural areas.
