Alia Bhatt to Play College Student in Chetan Bhagat's 'Half Girlfriend'?Varinder Chawla

Alia Bhatt, who is well on her to becoming India's most loved actress, has signed a film opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film reportedly has a superhero touch to it and will require a good amount of special effects.

With "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania" raking in a good amount of moolah, Bhatt has successfully pushed herself into the big league. And now to work with the most talented actor the Hindi film industry has is like another feather in the cap.

Confirming the announcement, Karan Johar posted on Twitter, "AYAN MUKERJI's next for Dharma productions is slated to begin mid next year and release December 23rd,2016. RANBIR KAPOOR and ALIA BHATT..."

Since the film is being made at a grand level, the makers have reportedly approached Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies for the VFX. "I am excited to play the role of a superhero, but when we talk of superheroes, we just have one image — Spider-Man or Superman. But he (Ayan) isn't writing a film along those lines. I think it's a fantasy-based film, a mythological (based) in contemporary times. And it will have a boy who will have some form of superpowers. But right now, it's too early to talk about it," Hindustan Times quotes Ranbir.

While the movie will go on floors only next year, the Times of India had earlier quoted a source saying, "Ranbir trusts Ayan's abilities. He has enjoyed working with the film-maker so far, and is looking forward to their next outing together. This film will be mounted on a much bigger scale than their earlier projects."

Alia, who harbours a massive crush on Ranbir and has even gone on record to express her love for the actor, is busy preparing for her next film "Shandaar" with Shahid Kapoor. Meanwhile, Ranbir has been busy shooting Imitiaz Ali's "Tamaasha", Anurag Kashyap's "Bomboy Velvet" and Vicky Singh's "Roy."
