Rampur, Nov 8 (ANI): Horse breeders and stud farm owners throng a three- day annual horse fair in northern Rampur town to buy the 'Chamurthi' breed of horse, also known as 'snow horse', because of its ability to trot on snow even at night. The authorities have organised the fair to promote and showcase some rare breeds of horses. Buyers from different parts of Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring Uttarakhand and Punjab turned up at the fair to buy and sell horses. Every year, hundreds of horse breeders and owners from all over India attend the Rampur horse fair where the main attraction is the Chamurthi horse. Legend has it that centuries ago, the very first of them was found in the remote village of Chamurthi in Tibet and are thus named after the place of their origin. These are small in size but with a long mane these horses are the lifeline of the people in the tough and difficult terrain of the Himalayas. In local dialect, this particular horse is called Kayang which means faster than the fire and is considered an endangered breed.
