Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will soon launch a new software, which will send status SMS to the waitlisted passengers, once the ticket is confirmed, says a new report.

According to a PTI report, the railway passengers will receive SMS on their mobile phone numbers given at the time of ticket booking, if their tickets get confirmed before journey. The service will make the railway business hurdle free.

"Once the SMS-based service is operational, passengers will get the updated status of their waitlisted tickets automatically," a Railway official told PTI, adding that "only those passengers will get the message whose tickets get confirmed."

IRCTC had earlier launched a web-based service for booking railway tickets. The apps allow users to plan journeys, book railways tickets, check the status of their PNR, check booking and cancellation history and check ticket availability. The app has been launched for all platforms and users of Windows Phone, Windows 8 Desktop, Tablet, and laptop can download this application free of cost from the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store respectively.

"Mobile-based booking provides the users ease and convenience of booking tickets from anywhere and anytime. There will be no requirement of a printout because the ticketing message will be considered as valid during the journey," a senior IRCTC official had said at the time of launch as quoted by PTI.
