Karthik Subbaraj's latest venture "Iravi" has performed well in its opening weekend. The Tamil movie has also beaten several movies, including Silambarasan's "Idhu Namma Aalu" in Chennai.

In its first weekend, "Iraivi" has minted Rs. 78.47 lakh from 204 shows, reports Behindwoods. The movie had opened to highly positive reviews from critics and audience and it played a key role in its success at the box office.

However, the movie does not fall under the category of regular commercial potboilers and the industry insiders expect only a section of the audience to enjoy the film. Hence, it has to be seen how the flick performs at the box office in the coming days. 

Simbu's "Idhu Namma Aalu" is in the second place in Chennai. In its second weekend, the Tamil flick collected Rs. 54.38 lakh from 268 shows to take its 10-day total tally to Rs. 2.49 crore. The film has been declared a "hit" at the Chennai box office.

Another new release, "Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran" has done a decent business by raking in Rs. 49.80 lakh from 183 shows in its first weekend. This flick has got rave reviews and family audience have liked it. As a result, the trade experts expect the movie to perform well in the coming days.

Bollywood film "Housefull 3" has opened well in Chennai and has collected Rs. 26.27 lakh from 84 shows. It is followed by "A...Aa," which has raked in Rs. 19.28 lakh from 63 shows.

The collection of Vishal Krishna's "Maruthu" has completely slowed down at the box office. It has raked in Rs. 2.31 lakh from 24 shows. The total collection of the flick stands at Rs. 1.95 crore by the ends of its third weekend.

"Uriyadi" has collected Rs. 1.03 lakh to take its total tally to Rs. 9.49 lakh in 10 days.
