Iran, Iraq and Turkey have called for restraint and intensified diplomatic efforts to prevent the further escalation and spread of conflicts in West Asia amid heightened regional tensions.
The issue was discussed during separate telephone conversations between Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Turkish and Iraqi counterparts on Saturday, according to statements issued by Iran's Foreign Ministry.
During his conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Araghchi discussed the latest developments in the region. Both sides stressed the need to prevent a further escalation of tensions and avoid the expansion of regional conflicts.
The two ministers also called for continued consultations and diplomatic efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
In a separate conversation with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Araghchi reviewed bilateral issues, regional developments and ongoing processes. The two sides emphasised the importance of maintaining stability and security along their common border and continuing coordination.
They also called for responsible approaches to developments in the region and renewed efforts to prevent conflicts from escalating or spreading.
The discussions come amid heightened tensions across West Asia, with several countries expressing concern over the widening impact of ongoing conflicts. The BRICS New Delhi Declaration also called for maximum restraint and urged countries to avoid actions that could further aggravate the situation.
Iran, Oman agree on new Strait of Hormuz routes
Separately, Iran and Oman have reached an understanding on new entry and exit routes for the Strait of Hormuz and are expected to brief Gulf countries on the arrangements at a regional meeting in Muscat on Monday.
According to Iranian officials, the agreement followed intensive technical and diplomatic discussions between Tehran and Muscat. The new arrangements concern shipping routes through the strategically important waterway, which is crucial to global energy supplies.
The developments come as tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz remain high, raising concerns over the security of shipping and the potential impact on global oil markets.
