Iran on Friday claimed it targeted several US military aircraft stationed in Jordan with ballistic missiles and drones in retaliation for overnight American strikes on multiple locations across the Islamic Republic that reportedly killed at least eight people.
In a statement, Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) said they had destroyed "several US refuelling aircraft and fighter jets" and caused "serious damage to many more." The group also called on Jordanians to target what it described as "the interests of the aggressive and anti-Islamic Americans" in their country.
The IRGC further claimed it had struck a US special operations command centre at al-Tanf in Syria in retaliation for the killing of Iranian soldiers in Iranshahr. However, there was no immediate response from the US military or the Syrian government, and the claims could not be independently verified.
The latest escalation came hours after Jordan's military announced it had intercepted and shot down three Iranian missiles over its territory, adding that there were no casualties or damage.
Iran also launched fresh missile attacks against US-allied nations in the Middle East, including Qatar, while a power and water desalination plant in Kuwait was reportedly damaged. Explosions were also heard in Irbil and Sulaymaniyah in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdish region, where air defences intercepted incoming projectiles.

The attack in northern Iraq reportedly targeted the Iranian Kurdish dissident group Komala, killing at least nine people and injuring several others, according to an official who spoke on condition of anonymity. Although Iran did not immediately claim responsibility, it has targeted the group in the past.

US expands strikes on Iran
The developments followed another wave of US strikes on military and infrastructure targets in southern Iran, including areas near the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has warned that all American military bases in the region remain within the range of its missiles and drones and vowed further retaliation.

According to Iranian state media, the latest US attacks hit southern coastal cities and islands, including Ahvaz, Qeshm, Bushehr, Dashti, Bostan, Sirik and Bandar-e-Lengeh, causing widespread infrastructure damage.
In Bandar-e-Khamir, three bridges were reportedly destroyed, while several locations in Bandar Abbas, including the Tapeh Allah Akbar neighbourhood, were hit. Road and railway infrastructure in Hormozgan province also came under attack, killing at least seven people.
In Iranshahr, an airport was damaged, triggering power outages, while airstrikes on Kish Island temporarily disrupted electricity supply in several areas.
Iranian officials said the latest US attacks killed dozens of people and injured hundreds more, with additional casualties reported in Friday's strikes.
