The United Arab Emirates bagged the hosting rights for 20 matches in IPL 7, starting on 16 April with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi.

The IPL council decided on the schedule after a meeting in Chennai on Wednesday. 30 April will be the last match to be played close to the sands of UAE in Dubai, with Mumbai Indians facing Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sheikh Zayed Stadium Abu Dhabi (seven matches), Sharjah CA Stadium (six matches), Dubai International Cricket Stadium (seven matches) are the three grounds finalised for IPL 2014's first phase. The second leg, however, could be held in Bangladesh but many insistent Indian states, which would not go to polls between 1 to 12 May during the general elections, have opened up options for the IPL governing council to make a final call.

"Pursuant to the initiative taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, many State Governments have indicated that IPL matches can be conducted in their respective states," BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said in a statement.

"Based on the responses received so far, the BCCI believes that the Pepsi IPL 2014 can be conducted in India from the first week of May. The schedule for the remaining 40 matches will be announced in due course."

In the UAE schedule announced, all eight teams will play five matches each. The day matches start at 2.30pm local time (4pm IST) and the night ones at 6.30pm (8 pm IST).
