Apple has confirmed a launch event on September 9 where the long-rumoured iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are expected to be released. While interrogating Siri did not yield any specific answer, Apple also remains mum on the subject.
Rumours have indicated that the new iPhones will bring several features, enough to convince Apple fans for an upgrade. Ahead of Apple's official unveiling, here's a look at everything we know about the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
Force Touch
Apple is widely expected to bring aboard the Force Touch display technology - found in Apple Watch - in iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. It will enable the new iPhones to differentiate between a light tap and a hard press, making room for new touch controls and gestures.
Display
As per the leaked images and reports so far, the new iPhones will look identical to the existing iPhones, including the screen sizes. Although, there were reports of a smaller four-inch version of the iPhone to be released this year under the name iPhone 6C, 9to5Mac suggests otherwise. According to the report, the Cupertino-based tech giant will not release the four-inch version this September.
A9 Processor
Apple is known to upgrade its processor every time a new iPhone is released. The current iPhone 6 and 6 Plus run on the company's home-grown A8 processor, which suggests the next models will be powered by A9 chipsets.
Improved Camera
The new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are expected to feature an upgraded camera sensor to bring DSLR-like quality images. The next-gen iPhones are expected to pack 12-megapixel iSight cameras and support 4K video recording, being the first iPhones to get such an upgrade, 9to5Mac reported.
In addition, the front cameras in the new iPhones are also expected to be significant upgrades for better selfies and clearer FaceTime. Some codes in the iOS 9 beta have indicated that a front-facing LED flash is in the books for the new iPhones.
Stronger Build Quality
After the 'bendgate' fiasco, Apple has learnt its lesson the hard way. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were the company's first smartphones with bigger displays. But the company was bombarded with several cases of bent iPhones, mainly due to the large screen and slim profile. However, Apple will change that in iPhone 6S as it is planning to use 7000 series aluminium and make the sidewall 1.9mm thick.
iOS 9 OS
Apple is set to rollout the latest iOS version for its iPhone line-up and the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will be the first ones to come with iOS 9. The new software is expected to bring several upgrades including a low-power mode, Apple Pay support for store rewards cards. The company is already testing the iOS 9 beta with its closed group of testers and the final rollout is expected to happen after the official launch at the upcoming event.
New Colours
Apple has an interesting colour scheme for its iPhones. After popularising the gold hue in 2013, Apple is expected to bring the anticipated rose gold version of the iPhone 6S next month. The new colour variant will sell alongside the other options including, grey, silver and gold.
A recent leak also showed the iPhone 6S in pink colour. It remains to be seen how many colours Apple will bring this year.
Storage
After major tech giants like Samsung ditched the 16GB storage in favour of 32GB in flagship devices, Apple was also rumoured to follow the suit. But a fresh leak by French tech leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer shows the 16GB variant as the base model for iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.
