Intex launched a new affordable smartphone, Aqua Secure, in India on Friday, challenging rivals in the sub-Rs. 10,000 price segment. The Aqua Secure, as the name suggests, emphasises on the security of the device and users' data stored in it by adding a biometric authentication feature, which is a first in the company's line-up.

Intex announced the Aqua Secure smartphone is priced at Rs. 6,499 and comes in two colours -- gold and grey. In addition to the fingerprint scanner placed at the back of the device, the Aqua Secure sports a USB Type-C port, which makes it probably the cheapest handset in the market to house two premium smartphone features at this price.

Intex Aqua Secure supports 4G LTE, VoLTE with HD voice calling and has dual SIM slots, which is slowly becoming a standard for all new smartphones in the market. In competition, Reliance LYF offers a wide range of devices with high-speed 4G LTE and VoLTE support at an affordable price.

"4G connectivity, big screens, high definition displays and powerful RAMs are the current trends," Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, mobile business head at Intex Technologies, said in a statement, Gadgets360 reported. "Intex brings this 4G enabled device with advanced security feature like finger print sensor and VoLTE. Aqua Secure will provide our consumers with an advanced technology experience at a very competitive price."

In terms of specifications, Intex Aqua Secure offers nothing out of the way. It features a 4.5-inch FWVGA display with 480x854 pixels resolution, a 5MP primary camera with dual LED flash and a 2MP front snapper. It is powered by a 1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735M processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB expandable storage up to 32GB.

Intex Aqua Secure packs a 1,900mAh battery and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop. The handset supports 21 regional languages and has a MediaTek-exclusive HotKnot feature, which works like NFC to share files and photos. The handset is available in retail stores and also online.
