The virtual reality sector is garnering attention from all corners as companies like OnePlus, Samsung, LG and Sony are taking keen interest in exploring the VR space. Intex joined the VR obsession with its latest Eyelet VR headset, which is a Works with Google Cardboard (WWGC) certified device. The cardboard VR headset is not sold separately, but comes free with Intex Aqua View smartphone, which was launched on Monday for Rs. 8,999.

The Eyelet VR headset is not much different from the original Google Cardboard and is made of same material. Users need to slide their smartphone inside the VR Cardboard and enjoy the world of virtual reality through apps. The Eyelet VR has Intex branding in the front, but lacks a strap that can be used to wrap around the head for a comfortable view.

"Virtual reality is the next big thing in the area of consumer technology," Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, mobile business head at Intex Technologies, said in a statement. "We are delighted to partner with Google in bringing Intex Eyelet Cardboard bundled with Aqua View thereby marking our entry into the VR space."

There are plenty of VR options with much better materials online, selling for less than Rs. 1,000. But Eyelet comes free with Intex Aqua View smartphone, so buyers need not spend anything extra for a VR headset.

Intex Aqua View is a budget smartphone with a 5-inch HD display and a 2.5D curved glass screen. It has a premium design with fingerprint sensor integrated within the home button for biometric authentication. The handset features an 8MP rear-facing camera with LED flash on a black glass strap, which adds to the looks. The front camera is equipped with a 5-megapixel sensor. Photography enthusiasts will find the variety of camera modes extremely useful that can shoot live photos and recognise gesture V shots.

The Aqua View is powered by a 64-bit quad-core MediaTek processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage. The dual SIM 4G smartphone has a 2,200mAh battery, which the company claims to last up to 7 hours, and it runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The handset comes in grey and white colours and will be available in offline retail stores in India.
