Gilgit, Jan 13: Rising unemployment, poverty and income disparity is fuelling dissatisfaction among the local people in Gilgit Baltistan. It’s the outcome of a large influx of people from Pakistan in line with the country’s deliberate expansionist policy in the region.Islamabad offers several perks to those settling here. Government employees from Pakistan get double salary and incentives to serve in Gilgit, while locals are prevented from getting any employment in the public sector. Gilgit Baltistan, a part of the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, has been illegally occupied by Pakistan for over six decades now.
