Indy cars crossed San Franciscos famed Golden Gate Bridge on 27 August to honour the late Justin Wilson, a former Formula One driver and seven-time IndyCar champion, who died at the age of 37. Wilson suffered a severe head injury during a pile-up in the closing laps of an IndyCar race at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania on 23 August.

Marco Andretti took the wheel of Wilsons #25 car to lead the motorcade of drivers including reigning IndyCar Series champion Will Power, Graham Rahal, Josef Newgarden and James Hincliffe driving a special two-seater with the championship trophy, the Astor Cup, in the second seat.

The drivers are in the Bay Area for the final race of the IndyCar season, the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma. Wilson is the first IndyCar driver to die following a race accident since fellow Briton, Dan Wheldon, was killed in a ghastly crash in Las Vegas in October 2011.
