Popular news channel CNN-IBN's 'Indian of the Year' awards to the most-popular newsmakers of the country for their notable contribution to the society were given on Tuesday, 17 March at Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in New Delhi.

Indian Vice-President Mohammed Hameed Ansari presented the awards to the winners.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was selected as the Indian of the Year 2014.

Kerala DIG (Intelligence) P Vijayan won the Indian of the Year Popular Choice Award along with Telangana Chief Minister and TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao.

While Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) chairman N Chandrasekharan won the award in business category, notable writer Chetan Bhagat received it under entertainment category.

The ninth edition of the star studded event saw the presence of many politicians, celebs and socialites, including Union Finance and I&B Minister Arun Jaitley, Union Minorities Affairs minister Dr Najma Heptulla, Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, actress Kushboo, former NZ cricketer Chris Harris, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Former Attorney General of India Soli Sorabjee, among others.

Aishwarya Majumzar and "India's Rockstar" winner Ritu Raj Mohanty performed during the grand event on Tuesday.
