Delhi Dynamos striker Alessandro Del Piero feels that his side played well in their Indian Super League opener against FC Pune City even though he admitted that he was a little disappointed with the goalless stalemate at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

Despite dominating large chunks of the match and creating a number of chances, the Dynamos were unable to break down Pune City, who seemed pleased to leave the capital with a draw.

And Del Piero, who came in as a substitute in the 38th minute, feels his side were unlucky not to get a goal despite being the better team.

"We played very well and completely dominated the match but missed a lot of chances. A goal would have changed the complexion of the match," the Italian legend was quoted as saying by PTI.

Del Piero, though, understands that such issues can be there in an opening game.

"But, it was our first match and we have done very well except that we did not score," he added. "The Indian players also played very well."

The 39-year-old also said that he "enjoyed every bit of the match" especially after seeing the reaction of the fans, who were singing his name when he came onto the pitch.

"They chanted my name when I entered the field and during play. It was really a very good feeling. I thank my Indian fans. The playing atmosphere was also good with a lot of people turning up. Only thing was that we did not win the match," he added.

Meanwhile, Dynamos boss Harm van Veldhoven says that he was happy with his team's performances despite admitting to being a little disappointed with the goalless draw.

"We want to play attacking football and we did it today," he said. "We had a lot of chances but could not score.

"Either the final pass or the finish was lacking. I am disappointed at the result but I am happy with the way the team played."

Van Veldhoven admits that his side found it hard to break down Pune City's defence due to them playing with five defenders.

"Pune did not have any chance and they played with five at the back. It was difficult to break their defence as we did not get the space."
