Indian Railways Launches New Mobile App to Track Train TimingsIRCTS/NTES

Indian Railways on Wednesday launched a new mobile app National Train Enquiry System (NTES) that will help users get information about the arrival and departure of trains.

The new mobile app NTES has been launched by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the information and technology arm of Indian Railways. While the app is currently available only on Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8, other mobile platforms will also get it in the near future.

Using various interfaces like nationwide unique rail enquiry number 139 and website (www.trainenquiry.com) NTES, the back-end system of Indian Railways provides the information about the trains to the public. The app provides the user with data like the arrival of the train, departure and current status of the trains.

Besides this, users can also access information about cancelled trains, rescheduled and diverted trains.  While the 'spot your train' feature in the app gives the details about the train's current position, expected time of arrival and departure at a particular station, the 'Train Schedule' allows the user to know schedule of trains with other details such as stoppages, enroute, scheduled arrival and departure.

"A strong need was felt for a mobile app, with richer user interface, which can be downloaded on the device and comfortably made use for enquiries related to train running status," New Indian Express quoted a Railway official.

IRCTC had earlier launched a web-based service for booking railway tickets. The apps allow users to plan journeys, book railways tickets, check the status of their PNR, check booking and cancellation history and check ticket availability. The app has been launched for all platforms and users of Windows Phone, Windows 8 Desktop, Tablet, and laptop can download this application free of cost from the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store respectively.
