Adopting a humanitarian approach, the Indian Army on Friday repatriated a Pakistani youth who had inadvertently crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on June 12.
According to the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, the Pakistani national, who had crossed the Line of Control (LoC) into Jammu and Kashmir last week, was repatriated to his home country after the completion of legal formalities.
Asad Khan, a resident of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) in Pakistan, was handed over to Pakistan Army officials at the Peace Bridge (Aman Setu) over the Kishanganga River in the Teetwal area. Khan was detained in Simari village of Kupwara district on June 12 after allegedly crossing the LoC, according to the Indian Army.
"During his stay in India, Asad Khan was treated with dignity and compassion, reflecting the Indian Army's unwavering commitment to humanitarian values and conduct. His safe repatriation underscores the Indian Army's ethos, responsibility, and adherence to the highest standards of military professionalism," the Army's Srinagar-based Chinar Corps posted on X.
On June 12, Khan was apprehended in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district during a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
According to officials, the individual had crossed into Indian territory under suspicious circumstances. Acting on the input, troops of the Army's Chinar Corps and personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police intercepted and apprehended him before any potential security threat could materialise.

In a statement, the Chinar Corps said alert troops, working in coordination with the police, successfully detained the intruder near Simari village on June 12.
Earlier, PoJK Youth Crossed LoC to Meet His Girlfriend
On May 30, a youth from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) was apprehended by the Army after crossing the Line of Control (LoC) into the Uri sector of north Kashmir to meet his girlfriend.
According to reports, the youth took the risky step to meet his girlfriend and hoped to settle permanently in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
An official said that the PoJK resident, identified as Zeeshan Ahmad Mir, son of Lal Din Mir and a resident of Muzaffarabad, was apprehended by the Army's 12 Grenadiers unit at Silikote in Uri.
He was detained along with Iram Bano, daughter of Abdul Majeed Mir and a resident of Tilawari village in Uri.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the two were in a relationship. Zeeshan is believed to have crossed the LoC to meet his girlfriend in Uri.
During interrogation, Mir reportedly told security agencies that he had crossed the LoC to meet Iram, who resides in Tilawari village. Officials said both Zeeshan and Iram were being questioned by security agencies.
According to initial reports, Zeeshan and Iram became acquainted through social media. Over time, their online friendship developed into a romantic relationship.
