Day 1 of the Davis Cup 2016 World Group playoff between India and Spain did not turn out very well for the home side. Spain, who fielded Feliciano Lopez and David Ferrer in the singles matches in New Delhi, picked up a 2-0 lead over India on Friday.

In the first match, India's Ramkumar Ramanathan lost to Lopez 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 1-6, while in the second match, Ferrer, part of Spain's Davis Cup winning side on three occasions, completely outclassed Saketh Myneni with a 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 score. The Spaniard, known for his amazing skills, proved his class once again.

On Day 2, India's tennis legend Leander Paes gets set to ply his trade alongside Saketh Myneni in men's doubles clash against Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez. The match will take place at the RK Khanna Tennis Complex.

"It was a bad day [on Friday] but we have to put this behind. It is now best of three for us and we have to get the momentum now," Saketh was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India. "The plan is to play with Leander Paes. I hope to help Paes. He is such an experienced guy and the biggest name. Hopefully it would be a better day," he added.

Leander Paes is a legendary name in the Indian Davis Cup circuit. The 43-year-old is just one win away from overtaking Italian legend Nicola Pietrangeli's 44-year-old record for the most number of doubles victories at the Davis Cup. Paes currently has 42 wins from 53 ties, while Pietrangeli had recorded 42 wins from 66 ties.

Paes, who has a total of eight men's doubles Grand Slam titles, made his Davis Cup debut at the age of 16 in 1990. He forged a sensational partnership with Mahesh Bhupathi over the years in the tournament to bring glory to India. The duo, fondly referred as the Indian Express, won 24 consecutive times in the men's doubles event at Davis Cup and dominated the scene for 14 years.

For Delhiites, it would be an experience to see the veteran contest once again. Win or lose, the mere glimpse of the ageless wonder is a delight.
