India will lodge a complaint through diplomatic channels against the US for funding hydel-power project in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), which India claims to have been illegally occupied by its neighbour.

The Obama administration organised a fund-raising event in Washington last week to extend financial support to Pakistan's Diamer-Bhasha dam 4,500MW hydel-power in PoK's Gilgit-Baltistan area, which has upset the Union Government.

India is protesting against US support to Pakistan as it claims any infrastructural projects in PoK by Pakistan is illegal as India has always considered PoK and the entire state of Jammu & Kashmir an integral part of the nation, according to a The Times of India report.

This notion has made India lodge a protest against nations such as China for their support to Pakistan's infrastructural projects, including irrigations plans and dam project, for which China has promised a financial support of $12-15 billion.

India also fears that the dam's reservoir will "inundate large parts of land in northern part of Jammu & Kashmir adjoining PoK," according to the report.

The US administration's decision to offer support to Pakistan comes at a time when India is constantly facing ceasefire violations along the International Border and Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir from the Pakistani side. The unprovoked firing along the Indo-Pak border took lives of many military personnel and local civilians.
