The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has overseen the shipment of 24 metric tonnes of frozen food products from Sonipat, Haryana, to Canada, according to a Commerce Ministry statement on Friday.
This consignment, led by Farmer Producer Organisations (FPO), includes green peas, mixed vegetables, peas and carrots, sweet corn, and samosas among other items.
The exporter, Aterna Foods Producer Company Limited, shipped 2,295 boxes with a total value of 35,140 Canadian dollars. APEDA supported this unit through its Financial Assistance Scheme.
This export marks a significant development in expanding international market access for Indian processed food products and connecting FPOs with buyers worldwide.
The role of FPOs in establishing export-oriented value chains is increasingly important, enabling farmers to reach global markets. APEDA has actively facilitated linkages between FPOs and exporters to strengthen these market connections.
Linking agricultural production with processing and international markets through the FPO-led model can improve producer returns and enhance farmer groups' roles in export value chains.

Abhishek Dev congratulated the exporter and stakeholders during the flagging off, highlighting that direct exports by FPOs would boost value realisation for producers. He also recognised NIFTEM's contribution and expressed hope for increasing exports to Canada.
Under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, APEDA continues efforts to create market linkages and export opportunities, integrating farmer groups into global value chains.
This export initiative aligns with strengthened India-Canada relations following the new government led by Mark Carney in Canada, underscoring the importance of promoting trade between the two nations.
