India on Sunday strongly condemned the attack on merchant vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman, calling the continuing assaults on commercial shipping in the Middle East "deeply worrisome." The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that 10 of the 11 Indian crew members aboard the vessel have been rescued, while one Indian seafarer remains missing as search and rescue operations continue.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India is closely monitoring the situation through its Embassy in Oman, which is coordinating with Omani authorities to trace the missing crew member. New Delhi also urged an immediate de-escalation of tensions in the region and stressed the need to protect commercial shipping routes and ensure maritime security.

The attack comes amid renewed instability in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping lane, where escalating regional tensions have heightened risks to merchant vessels. India reiterated that attacks on civilian ships threaten international trade and the safety of seafarers, while reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding Indian nationals working in the region.

The government said it remains in constant touch with local authorities and will continue to provide all necessary assistance to the affected Indian crew members and their families as rescue efforts remain underway.
