Korean car maker Hyundai unveiled the new Verna sedan at the Chengdu Motor Show, in China on Sept. 2. The current Verna model is one of the bestselling vehicles of Hyundai India and the new version is expected to be launched in India mid next year.

Prior to the production-spec version, Hyundai had showcased the new Verna concept at the Beijing International Automobile Exhibition in April. The production-spec features minor tweaks compared to the concept.

The new Verna features a design that's sleeker in contrast to the current Fluidic design language. It is an evolved design just like what Hyundai did in the new generation of the Elantra sedan. A large hexagonal grille in chrome finish takes the centre stage at front, which is flanked by a pair of sweptback headlamps. The design of front bumper and fog lamps are similar to the Elite i20. At the rear, the position of the registration plate has been moved down to bumper from boot. The new tail lamps are wide and thin compared to the current model. The 2017 Verna measures 4,380mm in length, 1,728mm in width and 1,460mm in height.

The interior has been updated with all black upholstery. A large touch-screen is housed at the centre of dashboard, the layout of which has been inspired from the bigger sibling, the Elantra.

The new Verna is offered in four engine options, 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol and 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre diesel. The 1.4-litre petrol engine develops 104bhp while 1.6-litre petrol will churn out 121bhp. The 1.4-litre diesel will produce 89bhp, while the 1.6-litre diesel will belt out 127bhp of power. The transmission options will be a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission. The automatic transmissions will be limited to 1.6-litre engine variants.
