Fans of Ilayathalapathy Vijay at Karaikal in Puducherry got a shock after a standee wishing their favourite star on his birthday was removed by the authorities for being put up without proper permission from the local officials.

Puducherry Governor Kiran Bedi apparently revealed the news about the removal of the standee. She shared two photos and tweeted, "When we empower rank and file we get results. He is beat officer in Karaikal in Pondycherry who got the area cleared. [sic]"

According to reports, the standee, which was illegally placed at the spot by fans, was removed soon after it was discovered that they had not taken necessary clearance from the authorities. The group of fans is also said to have been fined, although the exact details are not known at the moment.

It is a common practice for fans to erect cut-outs, banners and hoardings of stars during their birthdays. Most of the times, local authorities either tend to ignore them or they do not come to their notice.

Vijay turned 42 birthday on Wednesday, June 22. Unlike every year, he did not celebrate the day with much fanfare this time. He was reportedly in the U.S. for the special day and will be spending two weeks with his family there.

However, his fans have made it a memorable day by doing charity apart from cutting cakes.

Currently, the actor is busy with Bharathan's movie, which is presently being referred to as "Vijay 60." The movie has Keerthy Suresh and Aparna Vinod in the female lead roles. Jagapathi Babu, Sathish and many others are also part of the cast.

The first schedule of the movie was completed in Chennai last month while the second phase of shooting is going on in Hyderabad. The makers are planning to release it on the occasion of Pongal 2017.
