Taiwanese smartphone maker, HTC, launched the world's first 64-bit Qualcomm CPU-powered handset - Desire 820 - at IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin) 2014 in Germany on Thursday, 4 September.

"Our new HTC Desire model gives entertainment lovers exactly what they are looking for; a powerful, fast, stylish smartphone that delivers their favourite content on a big screen at a competitive price" said Peter Chou, HTC Corporation.

"With the HTC Desire 820, we've combined the most advanced technology with the best possible entertainment experience and bold, distinctive design to deliver a handset that is both desirable and affordable," he added.

As mentioned before, the main USP of the Desire 820 is that the Qualcomm's 64-bit architecture-based chipset, makes the HTC phone future-proof for upcoming Android L series software as well as later updates. Future OS updates are expected to make other 32-bit architecture devices obsolete.

Another advantage of 64-bit Octa-core CPU is that device's workload can be efficiently managed, as it will be able to assign a function to separate quad-cores based on the priority.
