Indian telecom carrier, Idea has launched a budget 3G smartphone dubbed as ID 4000 in India.
The new phone sports 4.0-inch HVGA TFT screen with 320x480p resolutions and ships with 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB inbuilt memory (expandable up to 32GB), 3.2-megapixel camera and 1500 mAh battery, which can run the device for up to 6.8 hours on talk time and close to 433 hours under stand by time.
On connectivity front, it features dual-SIM slots, 3G (Download-speed 21 Mbps & Upload-speed 5.76Mbps) network support, Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-Fi, micro-USB v2.0 and GPRS/EDGE for navigation.
Idea ID 4000 has been competitively priced at ₹7,000 to compete with the well established brands, but the phone runs on the out-dated Android v4.2 Jelly Bean OS compared to Motorola Moto E, Micromax Unite 2, and Lava Iris X 1, which ship with the latest v4.4.2 KitKat OS.
However, the company is offering Idea subscribers with some exclusive deals. Special 3G data pack of 1.6GB of 3G data and Idea TV free subscription for three months will be offered with a pack of ₹261 for new users. Existing customers can avail the same data service pack for ₹259.
"Our (Idea Cellular) strategy of proliferating data services through the sale of affordable 3G smartphones has worked well for us, and hence we will continue to build on our devices portfolio," NDTV quoted Idea Cellular Chief Marketing Officer Sashi Shankar.
The new Idea ID 4000 will be made available in select regions of India - Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Maharashtra and Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh (E) and Uttar Pradesh (W) for ₹6,890.
