George Garofano, a hacker from Connecticut, who hacked Jennifer Lawrence's phone and leaked her explicit photos, has been sentenced to eight months in prison.

George had hacked into over 200 iCloud accounts of Hollywood celebrities and was sentenced to jail time by a federal court in Bridgeport. He will also need to serve an additional 36 months of supervised release and do 60 hours of community service.

George is one of the four men arrested for the hack that took place in 2014. The hackers illegally accessed iCloud accounts of Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Kirsten Dunst, Vanessa Hudgens, Rihanna, Kate Bosworth, Hayden Panettiere, Lake Bell and others following which they leaked their private images online.

The other three accomplices have also been jailed for the same offence. Edward Majerczyk, 29, who was the mastermind behind the hack was sentenced to nine months in prison in 2017. Ryan Collins was sentenced to 18 months in jail in 2016. Lastly, Emilio Herrera pled guilty and will hear his court verdict next month.

The hackers sent emails as Apple and had allegedly asked the celebrities for their email ID and password for security reasons.

Apple sent out a statement saying "privacy and security are of utmost importance to us." This was a "very targeted attack" and Apple is "outraged" by this.

"It is not a scandal. It is a sex crime," Jennifer told Vanity Fair in November 2014. "It is a sexual violation. It's disgusting," she said, as reported by USA Today.

"Just because I'm a public figure, just because I'm an actress, does not mean that I asked for this," she said. "It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It's my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can't believe that we even live in that kind of world," she added.
