South Korean auto-maker Hyundai is reportedly planning to increase the production of  Elite i20 hatchback in India .

While speaking to AutoCar Professional, senior vice-president for Marketing and Sales, Hyundai, Rakesh Srivastava, said the production of Elite i20, the latest in the i20 hatchback line-up will be ramped up in coming months.

Currently Hyundai produces 10,000 units per month and increase in production will help the company to reduce the waiting period of Elite i20. The company has received 4,68,184 enquiries and 1,03,960 bookings for Elite i20 till March 16 and it has sold one lakh units of the model since its entry into the market.

It was reported previously that Elite i20 commands a waiting period of three months in the country depending upon the model. Launched in August, Hyundai Elite i20 packs 1.2 litre petrol engine and 1.4 litre CRDi diesel motor. While the petrol engine of Elite i20 can churn out 83ps of power and peak torque of 114nm, the diesel motor is tuned to generate 90ps of power and peak torque of 220nm.

On the safety front, the new i20 offers Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), four-passenger airbags and reverse-parking camera. 

Recently, Hyundai launched its Elite i20 based crossover i20 Active in India with a price tag of ₹6.38 lakh (ex-Showroom, New Delhi). Designed to rival Toyota Etios Cross, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Fiat Avventura, latest i20 Cross gets a new front styling with projector headlamps, daytime running lights LED and fog lights. As for engine, i20 Active gets the same motors of its smaller sibling Elite i20.
